Black, White and a tinge of Grey - Unexplained Point of Relaxation

Saturday, July 18, 2009

I am back to post again!

It is 11:59pm, Saturday 18 July 2009, and it just turned 12.00am when I cast my eyes at the time lol! I spent YESTERDAY's afternoon at Wayne's house with Leon and Wee Kiat, playing some Puzzle Fighter and Soul Calibur, ok I admit Soul Calibur is very fun!

Afterwards we went to CCK Lot 1 to watch Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. As you all know I'm totally into watching the movie according to my previous posts, and I still was 4 hours ago(Btw I watched the 8.15pm show). After 2 hours and 20 minutes, my mood changed totally... (about the movie)

Warning: Spoilers ahead for HPATHBP, if you have not watched the movie and planned to watch it and don't want any spoilers, please do not continue to read. I am not responsible for any harm done. =)

The movie is RIDICULOUS!

Overall movie - 3.5 / 10
Epic failness - 10 / 10

Ok, I know the movie is purely for entertainment sake, but for a pure Harry Potter fan it is a whole lot different. I have outlined not 1, not 2, but TEN FLAWS and one MAJOR EPIC FLAW in the movie. They are in no particular order, just in the order of how I remember them.

Flaw #1 - Chapter: Flight of the Prince

Remember Snape killed Dumbledore? After he killed him and Dumbledore was blasted over the battlements, like a giant ragdoll and out of sight and so on? In the book series it was supposed to be a great fight going on under the Astronomy Tower, and how Snape and Malfoy are escaping from the castle to Hogsmeade to Disapparate. BUT, in the movie they are like walking as if they are taking a stroll in the park SLOWLY down the castle and Harry was the only student apart from Draco Malfoy that know what was going on. Like, WTH??? There is supposed to be a fight going on!!!

Flaw #2 - The 4 Death-eaters that entered the Astronomy Tower to join Draco

I mean, ok being a HP fan, the 4 Death-eaters are clearly Amycus and Alecto Carrow, one burly one and Fenrir Greyback. BUT, in the movie it was Bellatrix Lestrange, Fenrir Greyback and 2 other lame Death-eaters that were not even introduced! What the hell man!

Flaw #2.5 - I thought the Astronomy Tower was supposed to be in open-air?? I mean without any ceiling or whatsoever?

Flaw #2.75 - Dumbledore and Harry Disapparate to the Cave from the Astronomy Tower!?!? I thought it was from Hogsmeade??? And for convenience sake Dumbledore said that he has the privilege of being able to Disapparate from inside the castle. Later on he, along with Harry, Apparated DIRECTLY ONTO THE ASTRONOMY TOWER! Speechless...

Flaw #3 - The Hogwarts Express

Not only does the Hogwarts Express gone shorter, but the scenes inside were just as epic fail. Ok I assume all the people that have read until this point know the book very well.

a) Harry Potter shared a compartment with Hermione and Ron right from the start. I mean, weren't Ron and Hermione prefects!?!?

b) Where is the Slughorn meeting in the Hogwarts Express with Ginny, Zabini and so on?

c) Harry used the Peruvian's Instant Darkness Powder to get into Malfoy's compartment???

d) Luna Lovegood found Harry Potter lying with his invisibility cloak hiding him after getting stamped on the nose by Malfoy. The scene was whereby Luna was wearing a pair of Epic fail glasses and happen to see 'flies' hovering over the spot Harry was, and saved him. 3 words - WASN'T IT TONKS?!?!

e) Following d), wasn't it Snape that escorted Harry back into the castle?

Flaw #4 - Opening

Ok the bridge collapsing and stuff was quite nicely done, but the Other Minister was conveniently ignored. They are simply revolving around Fenrir Greyback and Bellatrix like nobody's business. OH I KNOW! THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO INTRODUCE THE OTHER DEATH-EATERS!!!

After that Harry was seen at a pub flirting with a random girl, and Dumbledore interrupted him sadly. Wasn't Harry back home at Privet Drive, Dumbledore coming to take him to find Slughorn?

Flaw #4.5 - Horace Slughorn

They have clearly found the wrong man to play Slughorn. Where's the famous belly that J.K Rowling had so often described in the book?

Flaw #5 - Ginny and Dean scenes

Epic fail to say the least. They were caught kissing at the Three Broomsticks. Weren't they caught kissing FIERCELY in some tapestry by Ron and Harry after Quidditch practice/match? The two of them were like kissing nicely, shyly, unlike the FIERCE one that the director should have them do?

Overall, too little was emphasised on Ginny and Dean. At Slughorn's first meeting with the students, Ginny was late. Hermione pointed out that she must have quarreled with Dean, and Dean was NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN!

Flaw #6 - Aragog

I could have sworn that Aragog was as big as Hagrid. Wow, the director has assumed that our memories from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets were long forgotten. I mean, Aragog was thrice as big as Hagrid back in the second film!!

Flaw #7 - Sectumsempra Scene

Fail. Harry casted Sectumsempra on Malfoy and he started bleeding and stuff. Moaning Myrtle was nowhere to be seen, no doubt about that. In the movie, Malfoy was seen to be bleeding SLIGHTLY from his whole body, his FACE INTACT. His face was only grimacing as his body was bleeding, lying down. Allow me to type out what the book said:

Blood spurted from Malfoy's FACE and CHEST as though he has been slashed with an invisible sword.

See the SLIGHT difference?

Flaw #7.5 - Snape's reaction when he found out that Harry has done this kind of act to Draco.

In the movie, he conveniently ignored Harry after staring at him fiercely for awhile, then he attended to Draco, leaving Harry free to leave. Damn I really must say this. Didn't Snape bring Draco to the hospital wing and told Harry to wait for him in the bathroom? When he came back he wanted Harry to show him his schoolbag and give him detention? This part is cleverly skimmed through, I must say...

Flaw #8 - Lavender and Ron

The part where they kiss, snog and stuff was quite nicely done, but how they broke up is epic fail. They broke up in the hospital wing? Come on!

Flaw #9 - Potions

Seamus Finnigan, Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas and Lavender Brown were doing NEWTs Potions?!?!

Flaw #10 - Alas, the crucial memories of Tom Riddle wanting to seek immortality

The movie producer aren't going to like the fact that they have skipped this. I shall explain why. If they had conveniently skipped the introduction of Hufflepuff's cup and Ravenclaw's diadem, how the hell can they shoot Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in the first place?! The part where they introduce the Ring as a Horcrux was also not enough. How are we supposed to know how did Dumbledore come across it, and how he destroyed it? Marvolo, Morfin and Merope were also not introduced at all...

READY FOR THE MAJOR EPIC FLAW? I have totally saved the worst for the last. Get Ready... for the scene that makes no sense at all.

MAJOR EPIC FLAW - Dumbledore after he was dead

Epic Fail Award Winning scene. After Snape has escaped, Hagrid appeared OUT OF NOWHERE. What's more, Hagrid's Hut was not even put out of the fire. The director simply placed Hagrid there on the screen right after Snape escaped, his hut totally forgotten. I mean, Hagrid is supposed to be helping to distract the Death-eaters, not suddenly appear!?!? If you think this scene is bad enough, read on and you are totally wrong.

The scene whereby Dumbledore lay dead was fail. Almost the entire school was surrounding him. What's more, they suddenly point their wands into the sky, with a spell similar to Lumos, and then the Dark Mark cast by Bellatrix right after Dumbledore was hit by the killing curse was slowly disintegrating into normal clouds. For a second I honestly thought that they look like Michael Jackson fans about to sway their arms left and right when MJ is about to sing "Heal the World". Oh yes, wasn't the Dark Mark supposed to be there all along?!?!

Lastly, The Phoenix Lament and The White Tomb were 100% deleted from the movie...

If you had watched the movie, you should agree with me - This deletion sucks! =D

Ok, I was just complaining about the movie as I clearly expected more, but the movie does have its good points.

1) Funny. The humorous parts are really nice!
2) Graphics. I love the part where Dumbledore fights off the Inferi!
3) The 16-year-old Tom Riddle is really handsome! Even more handsome than me!

That's all.

LOL OKOK to prevent lots of other Harry Potter fans who would really sought to kill me after seeing me criticise the 6th Harry Potter film so heavily, I must say one thing: The movie would be awesome if you had not read the book in such detail. =)

Since I was totally put off by Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince, I shall do the next 40 facts that guys should know about girls another time...

Really tired now. I don't know if I shall do some work and 'administrative stuff' or simply go to bed. Oh yes! Project Work! I believe I should do PW now(insert "opportunity cost" explanation here).

Seeya people. Stay happy.
