Black, White and a tinge of Grey - Unexplained Point of Relaxation

Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy BIRTHDAY to Anselm,
Happy Birthday to me!

It's Thursday, 20th August 2009. 17 years ago, give or take a few hours, a doctor took me out of my mother's womb using his bare hands, because my head was too big to squeeze out the normal way. Anyway, today is my birthday!

I'm finally 17 years old, and what a weird feeling it is. It is like being 17 is neither here nor there that kind of feeling, or is it because of my pathetic Maths MSA 2 results?

Speaking of MSA 2, H2 Biology MSA2 was today and the paper was fairly manageable, hope my results show! =) With that MSA 2 is over, and I shall post my results as usual when I receive all my papers back, I got my Maths back though, it SUCKS!

Let me briefly blog about today: I went to school as per usual with the thought of today being my birthday aside, who in my class would know that today is my birthday anyway? What surprises me the most is that Bao Bao actually knew that today is my birthday and asked the whole class to sing me a birthday song! I feel slightly touched! I wanted to go home with Tricia before Chinese Tutorial as I feel like skipping the rest of the day, but in the end I decided not to, which is kind of a mistake. I got to know my pathetic Maths MSA 2 grade and wasted alot of time I would have spent sleeping at home.

I realised that I've been asking a lot of questions during tutorial sessions to constantly refresh my memory of my 4H2 syllabus, and I think that it is a good thing! For someone who doesn't give a damn about Biology tutorials, Chemistry tutorials, Maths tutorials AND Econs tutorials, it is actually good that I bother to raise questions to clear my doubts. I think having the initiative to attempt my tutorials would be the next step I should aim towards in order to score As for every single subject, Haix...

Let me share with you guys something disgusting. Ok, not disgusting, just very amazing. My Chinese tutor, Ji Wen, is apparently a VERY VERY smart teacher. His country of origin is China and he is educated there. During Chinese today I asked him about his days at high school, and his academic results. He claimed that he scored 1st place in Chinese, English, History and Politics and Economics. He claimed that his worst subject grade is a D, which he had gotten for Physics. He then told us that he scored 96% for that particular test, and because the competition in China is so damn heavy and that Physics is as easy as "Primary School Maths" to the China students, 100%(full marks) would only be considered for an A, 99% as a B grade, 97% as a C grade and 96% as a D grade.

WHAT THE DUCKING HELL!!!

In Junior Colleges in Singapore, we obtain an A grade for 70% and above and so on according to the grading system. I think my chinese tutor is seriously flabbergasted that there is actually a grade for 50 to 59%, as 59% for a particular subject is considered FAIL in China High Schools. Oh My God!

Would this particular story constantly serve as a reminder for me to strive for excellence? Should I be contented with aiming the 70% mark? Should I aim higher? The question is, I am not a typical Hwa Chong or Raffles Student who gets A grades like flipping a page of a book. I can't guarantee that all my subjects are able to be maintained at the A grade, except perhaps Maths of course. I feel that one would be a true genius if their GP can be maintained at 80% and above. Wow...

Anyways, the lack of self-discipline to complete my tutorials will always be my impediment to excellent grades. I hope I can change that when school reopens after September holidays, where I have to mug and do homework at a hardcore rate to prepare for my Finals. I'm excited about my MSA 2 grades already, but the feeling when you get anything other than A will always get to you, somehow.

LOL I know that I don't sound like I'm blogging about my birthday, but the fact is it is just another regular day for me. Ok let's talk about something happier, my favourite PE sport now would clearly be Captain's Ball, whereby I am the Catcher/Captain trying to catch the ball my teammates throw to me! Just a week ago(I know it is way overdued), we played Captain's Ball against 09S28 if I'm not wrong. The final score was 35 - 24 to 09S28. Anyway the reason we lost would probably be the fact that my class just sucked at sports except the touch ruggers and Petras and Jun Jie. I'm so bloody lazy that I would rather be the Catcher and just catch the ball when teammates throw to me, but my height turned out to be a large bonus. I, to say something good for myself, am a not bad catcher hahaha!!!

Other than that, Junior College Life is basically packed with lessons to torture your brain and hardly anytime to socialize with your friends, for me it is a different story as I'm mostly anti-social.

Tomorrow is yet another day to look forward to(except Chapel whereby I have to stand and listen to lame music again). There is learning festival tomorrow and Pilot Test for one of our strategies for PW. I hope that I don't screw up my acting. I haven't called Tam yet to confirm the details and plans for tomorrow, haix... After that I may go and have dinner with Leon and Yin Shuen and catch up again. Hopefully it will be a much better day tomorrow as I finally take a short break from all those texts in my notes.

Oh yes I have to update my slimming centre in 3 days time. HAIXXXXXXX... my weight is not improving...

A reminder to myself:

After tomorrow, there is still a Chinese essay, a GP essay, SAJC GP Block Test 2002 as well as my EoM to complete. Well I guess my first test to whether I can gain that self-discipline in due course would be after tomorrow...

Another small tidbit: I wonder what is going on in the minds of girls in 09S19...

Anyway thanks Yin Shuen for wishing me Happy Birthday THRICE! You rock always! Let's jog soon!

Seeya guys!!!
