Black, White and a tinge of Grey - Unexplained Point of Relaxation

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Hello I'm back people! As promised I am going to blog about my MSA2(Milestone Assessment 2) results, but first let me tell you guys what happened yesterday.

Yesterday, which is a Wednesday, I skipped school. Yup, basically I woke up at 6.40am and just didn't feel like coming to school. Actually I'm glad I didn't go as I have a heavy runny nose throughout yesterday. The only sad thing is that I missed the post-mortem for Biology MSA2, some Econs Macroeconomics theory and ALOT of alkenes stuff for Chem.

Speaking of Biology MSA2, I feel that it is relatively safe to skip school yesterday as there are no tutorials and I won't be getting back my Econs and Bio very soon, but it turns out that Bio and Econs are both given out first thing yesterday. So yeah, I got to know my results, grades and rank points only today. As I'm now in the SAJC library, might as well post it now and reflect on my results...

Without further ado(LOL), my results:

H2 Biology : B (21/32)
H2 Chemistry: B (17/25) T__T
H2 Mathematics: A (18.5/25) =/
H2 Economics: A (16/20) =D

H1 General Paper: C (28/50) =)
H1 Chinese: B (60/100) =(

Let's reflect/rant:

H2 Biology:

I only got the paper this morning, and I am QUITE satisfied with my results. I highlight the word QUITE because as I compare it with Bao Bao's paper, I realise that I made alot of lame mistakes which can be avoided. Although I convinced myself that I am more or less ready to attempt any Chi-Squared question, I only managed to get 4/7 for the structured question, which kinda suck. Well, a B is a B...

H2 Chemistry:

You know what's coming do you?

FUCK!

Yeah didn't bother to censor that. I mean this paper is truly the easiest paper I have ever attempted in SAJC, yet I scored such a pathetic mark. I misunderstood the question requirement when they tell me to draw the displayed formula for propanone, which is essentially drawing out the whole thing with all the C-H and the C=O bonds. Instead I decide to act clever and write out CH2-C(O)-CH2 with the double bond shown.

One word: Noob

What's more, all the questions are looking out for points such as alkanes being a simple covalent molecule and ketones being a polar covalent molecule, more energy needed to break bonds of A as compared to B and so on. I basically missed all these obvious points. In conclusion, I would have gotten 22/25, haix...

H2 Mathematics:

I essentially got a U for this paper, U for Unforgivable. I mean, come on, only 3 mere topics and I get such an Atrocious A??? Even Reuben got 20/25! Nevertheless, after Miss Tay has gone through the MSA2, I think I have truly gotten the hang of doing Functions and Inequalities questions. Hopefully I can sustain this feeling of confidence until my Finals, or should I say until my 'A' Level Maths is over.

H2 Economics:

HURRAY! HURRAY! This is the paper that I am the most proud of! 8/8 for the heavy-weight question!! The only problem is that I lost 3 marks for a 4 mark question whereby I was told to access how reliable a Figure/Table is with respect to the Extracts. Well I definitely must drill in the ways to tackle such questions effectively. Generally speaking, I really need to read up my Market Failure notes and familiarise myself with all sorts of policies described. That way, I would be able to constantly do well for the heavy-weight questions in the long run and evaluate this and evaluate that nicely. =)

16/20 FTW!!!

H1 General Paper:

Now there is this funny scenario. My previous grade for GP is a D, but I manage to get a C in the end. This is because I managed to convince Mr Gabriel to accept "follow after" for the word "emulate" for Vocabulary. Just now, Mr Gabriel explained to the whole class what are the key factors to look out for in an AQ question, on how to evaluate, explain and reiterate your stand. I think after today's GP tutorial my whole class would be geared up to tackle any AQ question, provided it is not very difficult.

I really should try and get a B for GP, it is difficult for my command of English but within my reach. I've been getting C for MSA1, CT and MSA2 thrice in a row. Well, good luck to myself.

H1 Chinese:

Even though I mentioned in my CT results "Who cares about Chinese?!", I'm actually kind of sad that I got a B. On the day of Chinese MSA2, I basically "anyhow do", resulting in a grade not up to my standard. Anyways, I've learnt how to be more critical in doing the 8 mark question, whereby you need to give your own opinion + examples in your society according to the passage.

Rank Points: 74

The usual 6 words: I could have done much better, especially in my Chemistry and Biology, resulting in 78 rank points, but meh, I'm contented with 74 rank points. Even though it is like 6th or 7th place in my class, at least I learnt alot from this MSA2 and get to have the cookie!

Mr Gabriel mentioned in today's GP tutorial that MSA2 is a gauge for you to evaluate your progress and readiness for the Finals. I admit that I really am too over-obsessive with grades, I just hope that Finals work out for me, especially for Chemistry and Biology, which scored a D and C for Common Test respectively, which indicated my inadequate level of preparedness and my grasp on the subjects. Hopefully for Finals, I can do even better than before, and achieve a higher class position!

It is already 4.15pm, and I'm having Econs tuition later at 7.30pm as usual. Miss Tee is going to go through more Case Study Questions, which would definitely be a great help for me for my Finals Econs!!!

Hopefully the next time I blog, it would be about Teacher's Celebration or something fun and not related to studies. In this way you readers won't have to endure my "study tips" and "extremely disgusting rant on mediocre results" kind of stuff. On a side note, I have not updated my slimming centre at all, and my weight is currently stagnant...

Well that's about all for now. I am not a mugger, but I think I will turn into one just for Finals, but wait, do I have the discipline to do so and follow all the ideal behaviour I have just typed out? We will see...
