Black, White and a tinge of Grey - Unexplained Point of Relaxation

Friday, November 20, 2009

Adapted from Priest Xing Yun's words of intelligence series 12, The Daily News, (LOL DIRECT TRANSLATION!)

Once there was a very rich man who had a wife suffering from a terminal disease. Her days were numbered and she would soon leave the world. Her husband hired an experienced artist to help him draw a portrait of his wife as a form of remembrance.

After knowing his husband's thoughts, the wife ordered the artist to draw her a crown lined with diamonds and also fill her clothes with beautiful jewels as well. The artist was puzzled.

"Mam, why would you want that? Your original crown would look silly with diamonds and your clothes are already so beautiful. Why diamonds out of the blue?"

The wife grimaced and answered flatly, "My dear Mr Artist, when I leave, my husband is going to remarry isn't it? All my contributions to my family would be passed over to her and my commitments would all be forgotten. That would be too cheap for her, you see. I want that woman to be miserable all her life by letting you draw diamonds and accessories all over my clothes. Like that, the woman would most likely quarrel frequently with my husband and saying, 'Why is it that your ex-wife had so many jewels and I had none?' They would fight all day and all night and it will never cease..."

Things come by and go most of the time. Some things are just beyond our reach and all we can do is to strive towards those goals or targets. When one is unable to grant other people's means when the individual himself could not get to enjoy those means, he or she is deemed to be selfish. If one is unable to feel happy seeing other people being happy, they would be the ultimate miserable beings in this world. Take the wife above for example. If she really loves her husband, she should graciously leave behind all her past contributions and wish for all the best for her husband, and pray that her husband would be able to get over her death quickly. Despite the inevitable fact that the husband would most likely remarry, she should be happy for them and not hold grudges which ultimately makes most parties involved miserable...

So, how can we spread the love and happiness?

Respect each other. Feel happy when other people feel happy. Open up your heart and be more sensitive to the surroundings. Give other people a chance to love what you love as well.

Yeah, inspiring...

The first week of lectures is finally over. Basically I have reverted back to the "mug-with-moderation" mode and what Mr Gabriel calls it - transcendental (LOL). Nevertheless, I look forward to the following two days of weekend as they would provide me a time to rest as well as catching-up with fellow L1 guys.

Don't know if I should update more regularly or on every Friday. Well, I shall decide when holidays officially start. Even then it would be time to mug again. Sigh...

Never mind. See and approach things with a positive mindset, people! Seeya!
